November UK web sales top £3 billion

IMRG has released its estimates for online sales in November 2006, figures which hit £3.26 billion – an average rate of nearly £5 million per hour. This is almost double what was spent in November 2005, which puts the smart money on a record holiday online shopping season for 2006. IMRG is predicting a total £7 billion in online sales during the ten week approach to Christmas. Further:

November’s internet sales were more than half a billion pounds higher than those of the previous month, when the IMRG Index recorded a value of £2,729 million for October. This increase was ten times the average monthly increase of £50 million recorded during the first ten months of 2006. During the same 10-month period two years ago, in 2004, the average growth rate was just £16 million per month.
