So, as we sit in Q3 2009 with the retail industry going back to school, the travel industry slaying swine flu and financial services companies nearly smiling again, what did Q2 2009 teach us in each of these industries? Well, that is what our dedicated vertical insights team has looked at once again.
Following on from their Q1 reports (Travel, Retail and Finance) they have released their Q2 2009 summaries of digital marketing trends in the retail, travel and finance verticals. Now for a taste of some insights included:
Travel:
- The internet was the main source of information for researching travel for 75% of UK internet users.
- Bookings for 2011 round the world cruises are 47% ahead compared with the same time last year when people were booking for 2010
- Mediterranean cruises are expected to be the most popular this summer with a 40% growth YoY with visitor numbers on Baltic cruises forecasted to increase YoY by up to 78%
Retail:
- 81% of consumers demand a seamless multichannel offering with 39% also expecting service and product to be consistent across all channels.
- The “Vince” update means that Google are giving brands rankings boosts for a selection of generic keywords
- 38% of online shopping takes place outside normal shopping hours
Finance:
- Searches for car insurance have increased 45% Y-O-Y.
- 38% YOY growth in all finance-related queries
- More time is being spent in the research phase of the process and brand loyalty is less of a consideration
