Yahoo and Orange in mobile search deal

Yahoo has struck a deal with mobile network Orange to bring search to its customers.
Yahoo! is planning to extend its internet search service to UK mobile phone users following a deal with network operator Orange. A deal with Orange would provide a major boost to Yahoo! as it battles for space on the mobile internet with rival search engine Google..Working with a mobile phone operator also opens up the possibility of tailoring searches to a person’s geographic location, something that advertisers will be willing to pay a premium for.
One cannot help but wonder if this will influence the commercial discussions on the publisher deal with the Orange portal (formerly Wanadoo). Surely Google’s deal with T Mobile prevents them bidding for the orange contract? Nonetheless, our prediction that mobile search could be big for the giants in 2006 seems to be spot-on…
