There has been a lot of talk across blogs this weekend and today about Google making some steps into the Mobile Handset arena, this has finally been confirmed via one of Google’s Directors for Spain and Portugal.
Google is reportedly developing its own mobile phone to compete with the top handset manufacturers. According to Spanish website Noticias.com, Isabel Aguilera, a director of Google in Spain and Portugal, confirmed that the company is working with others to develop a Google device.
The software giant is known to already be very active in mobile, achieving widespread search presence on several operators’ portals. It has also developed mobile specific versions of its online services Gmail, News and Maps. A Google phone would be expected to have the firm’s software much more integrated throughout its operating system.
It will be interesting to see how they position this as a product after the recent launches of things like Apples I-Phone and some of the media opinions that attracted.
