Google to Expand Newspaper Ad Program

Two months into a test with 100 advertisers and 66 newspapers, Google says its newspaper ads have exceeded expectations, resulting in an expanded program in the coming months, reports WaPo.
Google’s ad program allows advertisers to bid on an ad in a given section of a newspaper with a click of a button; the small ads have opened the doors of the newspaper to advertisers big and small, instead of just the traditional big buyers.

For now, Google is not taking a commission for brokering the sales, but plans to do so later. The devil in such details has not yet been exorcised. Google’s test ends at the end of January, when the parties will refine the program and decide how to proceed.

Google has launched a similar test selling ads on dozens of radio stations across the country. Google has its eye on TV ads, too.
