Last month The Independent saw the largest rise in unique visitors of any of the other ABCe tracked newspapers thanks to support from Latitude’s SEO team. Unique site visits increased by 20.6% between August and September, and by over 73% since March, when Latitude began working with The Independent.
Managing Director of Independent New Media Bill Swanson said “Over the past 6 months we’ve increased our online readership dramatically but still have even loftier targets for the next 6 months.”
Latitude and The Independent have been working hard on improving site navigation and availability of archived content, amongst many other initiatives, with the aim of increasing unique visitors 5 fold in 12 months.
UK organic traffic has doubled since Latitude began working on the campaign, increasing from 1.7 million visitors to 3.5 million visitors in the space of 8 months. This huge increase in organic traffic has made the Independent the fastest growing ABCe verified news site so far in 2008, with global page impressions increasing 145% since January, followed by The Telegraph (40%), The Times Online (27%) and the Guardian (15%).
Richard Gregory, COO of Latitude commented: “Working with The Independent has been a great opportunity for Latitude to show the true value of good SEO. Few marketing channels can deliver millions of extra readers at such a low cost”
