Microsoft After 24/7; Another Search Engine To Own SEM Firm?

By Jon Myers, Director Of Search  in Search Engines |Google |Yahoo |Microsoft

Yahoo has acquired ‘Right Media’ as we blogged about yesterday, in reaction to Google’s own acquisition of DoubleClick? Now the New York Post reports rumours that Microsoft might want to buy ad management company 24/7 Real Media.

It’s happening again, the same as with Google’s purchase of DoubleClick, the move also puts a search engine into the search marketing game.

It is interesting to see this, if Microsoft were to make this purchase it follows the Google route of acquiring a company strong in the paid inclusion area, which both Performics and 24/7 are.

Paid inclusion apart if these deals go through it will mean Google and Microsoft will own Search Marketing Companies. It will be interesting to see what the stance is here, will they hold on to the companies if they acquire them as Search Marketing firms or integrate them in to the Microsoft and Google entity’s? Let’s see how this develops over the coming weeks.
