Online is still thriving in latest spend numbers

By Jon Myers, Director Of Search  in News |Search Research

I was reading the same article that Jackie blogged about today on the UK Online internet advertising spends. With the leap by 42% to £648m in the first quarter of this year, compared with the same period in 2006 I thought I would have a look at some 2007 projections. The IAB figures for Q1 2006 were £456m. Even comparing it to the Q4 2006 IAB numbers of £583.7m this is growth of 11% quarter on quarter in Q1 2007.

The survey was compiled by the World Advertising Research Centre (WARC), showed that the only media sectors to enjoy annual ad spend increases were internet, outdoor and cinema.
How do we position a projection for 2007 then? The IAB had Online coming in at £2,015m in 2006 if the 42% growth against each quarter last year was to be maintained till the year end this would put online at £2,861.3m total for the year of 2007 which would be fantastic growth. If we were to take the idea of 11% growth quarter on quarter in 2007 it would breach the £3 Billion mark but this is probably not the most accurate way to project but would be nice to see. All in all it’s looking like another year of big growth in the online sector.
