The concept behind the whitepaper, written by Jon Myers, Director of Search at Latitude, was to explore deeper into the viability of the Longtail of Search. The usual method to do this in the past has been to review the ideas and methods behind the Longtail, but Jon wanted to explore more deeply the mathematics and the theory of the numbers behind the Longtail and see if it can be related the Brand Strengths of businesses and everyday market sectors.

The main points covered by the paper are:

• Using mathematics to determine the real life expectations of Long Tail and Deeper Buying
• The effect Deeper Buying in searches can have on sales and search traffic volume
• Generic searches compared to brand name searches and defining market share
• The theory behind why brand name searches are more likely to result in a sale

This follows, Andrew Redfern’s paper reporting how The Weather Affects Internet Search Volumes in the UK Financial Sector.
