Yahoo and Bebo do deal

By Jon Myers, Director Of Search  in News |Search Engines |Yahoo

Yahoo and Bebo, the UK’s biggest social networking site have completed an advertising deal that will allow Yahoo to serve advertisements on Bebo in the UK and Ireland.

Bebo has historically been the strongest social site in the UK with an estimated 11.6 million users, this deal will give Yahoo great opportunity to increase the amount of inventory they can serve, so in turn improve traffic volumes.

I think it will be interesting to see which industry sectors this has an effect on as the Bebo audience is quite a young user. But the traffic volume increase is always going to be a plus. Yahoo’s European MD Toby Coppel commented:

“We think this is a groundbreaking move in the online advertising industry in the UK and Ireland”

Apart from the ad targeting on Bebo’s site there will also be an integration of Yahoo Answers and a new Bebo toolbar that will enable Bebo users to review their social network. This will make for a powerful combination and should see the traffic volumes for Yahoo, Yahoo Answers and Bebo grow.
